United Way of Door County invites you to join them in another opportunity to LIVE UNITED. Saturday, May 12, 2012, will be its 15th Annual “Day of Caring.”
The Day of Caring program exists so thatDoorCounty residents can donate their time to provide support to non-profit organizations that need a helping hand. By volunteering your time to this meaningful cause, agencies such as the Kimberley House, Sunshine House, and JAK’s Place can quickly realize results on long-standing projects.
In order for the United Way of Door County to have a meaningful impact on our community, we encourage people to GIVE. ADVOCATE. VOLUNTEER. Our Day of Caring is one of the many ways that United Way brings people together to volunteer and make a difference in our community.
This year, more than ten human service organizations will benefit from the efforts of the Day of Caring volunteers. Projects include such diverse tasks as painting interiors, raking playgrounds, washing buses or a variety of cleaning projects.
“We try to match the interests and skills of our volunteers with the needs of the organizations, so it’s a great way for everyone to have fun and gain a real sense of accomplishment,” comments Ruthi Henrichs, Administrative Assistant forUnited WayofDoorCounty. “The volunteers take away a sense of satisfaction for having benefited the community, and community organizations are able to complete important projects, so everyone benefits.”
The event starts at 8:00 a.m. with breakfast donated by McDonald’s, at the Sturgeon Bay High School. At the breakfast site, participants pick-up their complimentary T-shirts, sharing a few moments with fellow volunteers before heading out to the job sites for the day. If volunteers are interested in Northern Door breakfast arrangements can be made. This year, there are project sites in Baileys Harbor.
Pre-registration for breakfast is strongly encouraged. By 9:00 a.m., volunteers will have moved out to their designated site for the day, with the goal of completing their projects by noon.
