EASTER EGG HUNTS: Saturday, April 15, 2017

The Easter Bunny is extra busy in Door County this year, hiding eggs for several Easter Egg Hunts on the Peninsula.

  • The Egg Hunt in Baileys Harbor starts at 10am at Kendall Park by the Town Hall, and is for children 6 and under only.
  • Sister Bay‘s Egg Hunt is from 10:30 to 11:30am at Waterfront Park and is for kids from Pre-K through high school.
  • Jacksonport‘s Egg Hunt is from 11am to Noon at Lakeside Park.
  • Thee hunt is on in Ellison Bay this year at Fitzgerald Park at Noon for children ages 2 to 10 years, and children over 10 years of age are invited to volunteer to help hide the eggs!

Don’t forget to bring your own baskets, and get hopping!

Glacier Ledge will feature a tantalizing menu for both lunch and dinner. Glacier Ledge will have indoor seating for 60 as well as outdoor seating for 60.  Inside, you will find an elegant dining space with a beautiful atrium featuring floor to ceiling windows giving you a sense of bringing the outdoors indoors.  There is also a magnificent fireplace made with Door County field stone that is the centerpiece of the restaurant.  The spacious outdoor seating deck overlooks beautiful woods and will feature two fire pits, a spectacular water feature, live music, craft beers, premium wines and mouthwatering creations from Executive Chef Lawrence Hutchinson.

Glacier Ledge is thrilled to have Chef Lawrence overseeing the fine cuisine selections.  Chef Lawrence presents with a very impressive pedigree.  After graduating from one of the best schools in the country, New England Culinary Institute in Vermont, Chef Lawrence took a job with the Ritz Carlton in Marina del Rey, California. He rose to be the Assistant Sous Chef after only 2 years.  He moved on to work in several restaurants and for catering companies feeding film crews in Los Angeles.  He was able to hone his skills on a food truck there feeding hundreds a day-serving stars including Tom Hanks, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Warren Beatty and Ellen DeGeneres.

Because of his California upbringing, Chef Lawrence’s focus has always been on fresh and seasonal ingredients. He called his restaurant cuisine “California Bistro” because it was approachable, seasonal and everything was fresh-the freezer was for ice cream!

Chef Lawrence ran his restaurant and event facility in Orange County California for 7 years before moving to St. Louis, Mo.  There, he took a position teaching culinary students about running restaurants, food history, health and nutrition, and beer, wine & spirits.  He used this time to devote himself to learning and teaching, sharing his love of the craft.

Though Chef Lawrence was a teacher for several years, he considers himself a perpetual student.  He believes in learning as much as possible about food and its origins because that is how you elevate it to its finest self. He says technique is the answer to creating great tasting food. Use food that is fresh and seasonal and bring out the flavors of each ingredient.

Chef Lawrence and Glacier Ledge look forward to using Door County and regional ingredients to create a delicious and fun dining experience for Door County residents and visitors.

Organized by the Door County Wine Trail and the Egg Harbor Business Association, the Wine Fest will feature over 80 different wines made right here in Door County, as well as lots of tasty food, and music!

    Demonstrations are scheduled throughout the day for your edutainment, and VIP attendees get extra perks including additional wines to sample and early admission. The Dave Steffen Band and Brass Differential will provide live music all afternoon starting at 12pm at the Harbor View Park Stage, and a variety of other bands can be found at the Nicolet Bank Stage, the Hwy 42 South Stage, and the Cupola House Gazebo Stage from 1-5pm. Greens N Grains hosts a collaborative Poetry Reading by Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets and Write On, Door County including Chicago poet and musician Al DeGenova, former Door County Poet Laureate Estella Lauter, and current Door County Poet Laureate Ralph Murre, as well as well as several others.

    Tickets can be purchased online for $35 each or at the event for $40 (21+). There is no charge for Designated Drivers as the event has grown to exceed the festival grounds!     Uncork Summer starts at 10am on the grounds of Wickman House (11976 River Rd. Ellison Bay, WI 54210). From 10am-2pm meet the host of Public Television’s Wisconsin Foodie program, Kyle Cherek, who will give a keynote address on Farm-to-Table Dining starting at 12:30pm on the main stage under the big tent, followed by demonstrations by Chef Terri Milligan and Chef Janice Thomas.

    Throughout the event enjoy live music from Small Forest and the Katie Dahl Band while you sample from dozens of participating restaurants including Bearded Heart Coffee and Harbor Fish Market (Baileys Harbor), Door County Creamery and Sub Express (Sister Bay), Shoreline Restaurant (Gills Rock), The Fireside Restaurant, Mink River Basin, Island Orchard Cider, and of course Wickman House (Ellison Bay), and many more!

    Admission to the Uncork Summer Festival is just $5 and Food and Drink Tickets may be purchased at $5 each (each drink or dish = one ticket). Free Parking is available at the Liberty Grove Historical Society, with shuttle service to and from the festivities. Due to another event, Hwy 42 will be closed in Egg Harbor, so you may want to take the scenic drive up Hwy 57 to avoid detours!
