Kick off your work shoes and slip away to Door County, Wisconsin this Labor Day Weekend! Stroll through a farmer’s market in Sturgeon Bay and Sister Bay on Saturday, and in Baileys Harbor on Sunday, and bring the bounty home. Bring the family to Sister Bay to experience the excitement of the Sister Bay Marina Fest, going on all day Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014 and ending with a fireworks display!
Take in dinner and a show! AFT’s original musical “The Bachelors” opens at the Door Community Auditorium in Fish Creek this weekend. The English Inn and Gibraltar Grill are both close to the DCA and Arroyo Bay Grill is across the street – just let them know you have tickets when you are seated. “Butler,” a sharp-witted Civil War drama wraps up this weekend at Peninsula Players Theater – 8pm nightly through Saturday, and Sunday, August 31st at 4pm. Grab a bite at the Bayside Tavern to hold you through the performance, then stop at Not Licked Yet Frozen Custard for a post-show treat.
In Sturgeon Bay, Third Avenue Playhouse has Wisconsin native Will Durst’s acclaimed tribute to the history, growth, joys, achievements, frustrations, fashions and looming doom of the Baby Boom Generation nightly at 7:30pm through Saturday, Aug. 30th. 136 Restaurant & Wine Bar is located right on 3rd Avenue down the street from TAP and is open until 10pm!

Sister Bay Bowl’s Alley Bar will feature David Hatch & Lynn Gudmundsen on Thursday, Aug. 28 from 5-7pm, and Double Dubbs will play inside the Bowl with opening band Intelliscope on Saturday, Aug. 30 starting at 10pm; Double Dubbs return for a second appearance on Sunday, Aug. 31 from 6-9pm.
Across the street, Cupcake Heaven will have live music with local singer/songwriter Marybeth Mattson on Sunday, Aug. 31 from 2-4pm and will offer free coffee with your purchase while she sings!
In Fish Creek check out Gibraltar Grill’s End of Summer Party & Music Festival 2014 with live music every day Aug. 28-31 including the timeless music of Cookee, Big Mouth & the Power Tool Horns, and more; and don’t miss JĀMUS Unplugged with Jason Solis at Cooper’s Corner on Friday and Saturday nights at 9pm.
The Cookery will have live music for Labor Day Weekend in their Wine Bar at 8pm on Saturday with David Hatch & Lynn Gudmundsen, and on Sunday, Aug. 31 with The Girls of Small Forest (Marybeth Mattson & Jeanne Kuhns).
In Sturgeon Bay, you’ll find live music at Stone Harbor Resort on Friday with Scotty Meyer Band at 8:30pm, and Saturday night as well as Sunday Funday from 2-6pm on the Waterfront Patio with Men in Suits.
This is also the last weekend for some of the county’s music series, Jeanne Kuhns’ Woodwalk Concert Series at Woodwalk Gallery in Egg Harbor wraps up its regular season with the annual Wise Women Songwriters Showcase Concert with Dorothy Scott joining Jeanne Kuhns, Jenny Bienemann, and Marybeth Mattson this year, a special performance by Andria Nikoupolis-Weliky of Andria’s Dancin on the Door School, and FREE Cupcakes from Cupcake Heaven. ($18) The Fishstock Concert Series also finishes the summer with their annual end of season concert featuring Eric Lewis & Friends at Camp David in Fish Creek on Sunday, Aug. 31 at 7pm. ($15)
Door County’s Concerts in the Park are also in their final week. Take advantage of these great free concerts! Coverleague plays acoustic folk and rock at Harborview Park in Egg Harbor, Thursday, Aug. 28 from 5-7 p.m. and Friday, Aug. 29from 5-7 p.m. Boo Bradley Band performs on the Baileys Harbor Town Hall Lawn. These concerts in the park are free! Bring a lawn chair or blanket and a carry-in picnic or take out from a local restaurant!
