ELLISON BAY, Door County, WI (June 12, 2014) — Door County North, the business association for northern Door County, Wisconsin, encompassing the Ellison Bay-Gills Rock region, has announced a partial list of the foods and beverages that will be served at the peninsula’s first county-wide food and wine festival, Uncork Summer, scheduled for June 28, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Click the following link to view, download, and print the UncorkSummer2014Map.
Uncork Summer will be located outdoors on the grounds of Wickman House, a highly-regarded restaurant on Mink River Road in Ellison Bay, and will feature 20 food booths, plus wines, ciders and craft beers. Local acoustic musicians will perform live music throughout the day. There is no admission fee to attend Uncork Summer. Tickets for individual small plate dishes and drinks are only $5 each.
Some of the small plate foods being served at Uncork Summer include dishes from Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant (Sister Bay): Grilled Salmon Salad with Dried Cherries & Goat Cheese in Lingonberry Vinaigrette and Vodka-Cured Herring with Lemon, Dill and Crème Fraiche; Arroyo Bay Grill (Fish Creek): Fish Tacos and Quesadillas; Chives (Baileys Harbor): Fried Pork Belly Corn Dog with Corn Relish and Lamb Kasta with Riata and Tabouleh; Crusty Uprising (Sturgeon Bay): Lemon Pound Cake w/Strawberries & Whipped Cream; Mr. Helsinki (Fish Creek): Cod Sliders; Parador (Egg Harbor): Bacon-Wrapped Dates, Olives and Jamon; The Savory Spoon (Ellison Bay): Truffled Mac ‘n Cheese with Nueske’s Bacon; The Shoreline Restaurant (Gills Rock): Asian Crab Cakes; Sub Express (Ellison Bay): La Coppa Gelato; Wickman House (Ellison Bay): Grilled Oysters and Baby Back Ribs with Potato Salad. Other restaurants serving small plate dishes at Uncork Summer include Alexander’s (Fish Creek), Bier Zot (Sister Bay), Door County Creamery (Sister Bay), Mission Grille (Sister Bay), Base Camp (Sister Bay), and Chef Mitch Catering (Ephraim).
Wines being served include two whites: an Albarino (Tangent 2012, Edna Valley, CA) and a Riesling (St. Urbans Hof Estate 2012 Mosel, Germany). Two reds are also being served: a Malbec (Allamand. 2012 Mendoza, Argentina) and a Pinot Noir (Block Nine, 2012 Napa, CA).
Three craft cocktails, each created by Wickman House, are being served: French 75 (Death’s Door Gin, fresh lemon juice, triple sec, elderflower, Champagne); Douglas (Death’s Door citrus-infused Vodka, Old Sugar Factory Honey Liqueur, fresh lemon juice, passion fruit puree); and a Bloody Mary (Death’s Door Vodka, tomato juice, spices, fresh garnish).
Hand-crafted beers and ales from some of Wisconsin’s best small breweries are being served, including Door County Brewery’s Polka King Porter (Baileys Harbor), Ale Asylum (Madison), Central Waters Brewing Co. (Amherst), 3 Sheeps Brewing (Sheboygan), and New Glarus Brewing Co. (New Glarus).
Finally, Brut Apple Cider and Cherry Apple Cider from Island Orchard Cider (Ellison Bay) are being served, as is kombucha, the open-fermented tea brew from Tapuat Kombucha (Sister Bay).
Expansive free parking for Uncork Summer will be in two locations: the Liberty Grove Historical Society property at the top of the Ellison Bay hill, and the Ellison Bay fire station on Hwy 42, north of the village. Free shuttles will ferry visitors from the parking areas and make stops at both Olde Ellison Bay Days’ shoreline site and Uncork Summer, on the Wickman House restaurant grounds.
